⟪세네카⟫는 쉽게 말할 수 없는 이야기들, 고백되지 못한 감정, 그리고 침묵이 머무는 자리에서 출발한 전시다. 네 명의 작가는 직접적인 서사나 명확한 메시지를 전달하기보다는, 이야기의 여운이나 감각적인 흔적을 통해 그 부재의 윤곽을 조용히 드러낸다. 각각의 작업은 말보다 여백, 구조, 분위기를 통해 말해지지 않은 것들에 다가간다.

전시 제목인 ‘세네카’는 일본어 ‘세나카(背中, せなか)’에서 유래한 말로, 책의 ‘책등’을 가리키는 속어다. 책등은 이야기를 감추고, 동시에 그 존재를 지시하는 지지체다. 모든 책이 펼쳐지는 것은 아니듯, 어떤 이야기들은 끝내 읽히지 못한 채 남겨진다. 이 전시는 그런 감정의 여백, 말과 말 사이에 머무는 정서의 공간에 주목한다. 그 비어 있는 자리야말로 감각이 작동하는 조건이 되기도 한다.

Seneka is an exhibition that begins from a place of unspeakable stories, unconfessed emotions, and the presence of silence. Rather than delivering direct narratives or clear messages, the four participating artists quietly reveal the contours of absence through lingering traces and sensory impressions. Each work approaches what cannot be said—through space, structure, and atmosphere rather than language.

The term ’seneka‘ is derived from the Japanese word ’senaka (背中, せなか)‘ and is colloquially used to refer to the spine of a book. The spine conceals the content of a story while simultaneously indicating its existence. Just as not every book is opened and read, some stories remain untouched—left behind. This exhibition turns its gaze to such emotional interstices, the spaces between words, where feeling quietly resides. It is within this emptiness that sensory perception is activated.
