«제 7회 Life Framer 포토프라이즈»는 한국에서 최초로 개최되는 순회전으로 2020-21년에 선정된 24점의 작품을 선보인다.
이번 전시는 Life Framer에서 2020-21년에 선정한 12개의 주제로 구성했다. 거리, 신체, 청춘 등 ‘인간의 삶’과 밀접한 관계를 이루고 있는 각 주제는 작가의 시선을 통해 독창적으로 재해석한 것으로 특히 이번 공모전에서는 ‘즐거운 나의 집(Home Sweet Home)’이란 새로운 주제를 통해 개인적인 공간이자 평안함의 상징인 ‘집’을 새롭게 바라보았다.
캐롤리나 케이즈(Karoliina Kase), 트레이시 발부츠(Tracy Barbutes), 아구스 폴 에스타브룩(Argus Paul Estabrook)등 총 23명의 작가가 선정되었으며, 사진작가 브루스 길든(Bruce Gilden), 마틴 파(Martin Parr), 필립 로르카 디코르시아(Philip-Lorca diCorcia), 테이트 모던(Tate Modern) 및 뉴욕 현대 미술관(MoMA)큐레이터 등으로 구성된 각 주제의 심사위원들은 우리의 삶을 둘러싸고 있는 환경, 도시화, 팬데믹, 젠더 이슈 등 사회적 쟁점을 어떤 시선으로 바라보아야 할 것인가를 질문한다.
2013년 설립된 Life Framer는 전 세계 아마추어, 신진 및 전문 예술가들의 사진을 꾸준하게 발굴하고 있다.
매년 12회, 매달 하나의 주제의 공모가 열리며 장르와 형식에 구애받지 않는 자유로운 방식으로 모집되는 출품작들은 저명한 심사위원들의 평가를 통해 수상작이 선정된다. 이번 국제 사진 순회전을 통해 한국 사진작가들에게 새로운 사진 플랫폼을 알리고, 전 세계의 다양한 작가들의 작품을 소개하는 기회가 되길 바란다.
The 7th Life Framer Photo Prize will be presented in South Korea for the first time as a traveling exhibition, showcasing 24 works selected in 2020–21.
This exhibition is organized around the 12 themes chosen by Life Framer in 2020–21. Each theme—closely connected to “human life,” including streets, the body, and youth—has been uniquely reinterpreted through the perspectives of the participating artists. Notably, the 2020–21 edition introduced a new theme, “Home Sweet Home,” which invited a fresh exploration of the home as a personal space and a symbol of comfort.
A total of 23 artists, including Karoliina Kase, Tracy Barbutes, and Argus Paul Estabrook, were selected. Judges for each theme—including photographers Bruce Gilden, Martin Parr, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, as well as curators from Tate Modern and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York—pose questions about how we should view social issues surrounding our lives, such as the environment, urbanization, the pandemic, and gender.
Founded in 2013, Life Framer has consistently discovered amateur, emerging, and professional photographers from around the world. Each year, 12 monthly calls for entries are held, allowing submissions in any genre or format. Selected works are evaluated by distinguished judges to determine the prize winners. Through this international traveling photography exhibition, the aim is to introduce a new photography platform to Korean photographers and to present the works of diverse artists from around the world.
