확장된 예술적 실천으로서의 아티스트북에 관한 연구를 공유하는 프로그램, Artists’ Book Research Seminar의 다음 챕터로 [참조점]을 선보입니다. 이번 프로그램에서는 아티스트북과 같은 결과물의 창작을 위해 수반되는 ‘리서치'를 연구와 공유의 대상으로 주목합니다.
[참조점]은 ‘예술가의 리서치란 무엇인가?’라는 질문에 대한 논의와 ‘리서치를 공유하는 방법'에 대한 탐구를 시도합니다.
리서치의 위치를 ‘결과물의 생산을 위한 것'이 아니라, ‘바깥으로 공유하기 위한 것'으로 조정한다는 것은 리서치 자체를 연구의 대상으로 삼겠다는 의지와 여러 질문들을 포함하고 있습니다. 예술가는 왜 리서치를 시도할까요? 창작의 과정에서 예술가는 리서치를 어떻게 수행하고 있을까요? 예술가로부터 수행되는 리서치가 갖는 의미는 무엇일까요?
위의 질문들과 함께, [참조점]은 리서치 기반의 작품 창작을 지속해온 각 분야의 참여 작가 4인의 [1] 렉처를 통해 리서치를 참조점의 위치에서 발화점의 위치로 이동하고, [2] 리서치 자료를 각주와 개인의 드라이브에서 꺼내어 전시 공간으로 공유를 시도함으로써 리서치의 미학적 가능성을 모색합니다. 또한 [3] 리딩 클럽에서는 비물질적인 리서치와 실천을 담는 대안적인 매체, 번역물로서의 아티스트북에 대해 탐구해보고자 합니다.

We present [Reference Point] as the next chapter of the Artists’ Book Research Seminar, a program that shares research on artists’ books as an expanded artistic practice. This program focuses on “research” itself as a subject of study and sharing—research that accompanies the creation of outcomes such as artists’ books.
[Reference Point] attempts to explore discussions around the question “What is an artist’s research?” as well as inquiries into “How do we share research?”
Adjusting the position of research from something “for the production of outcomes” to something “to be shared outward” includes both the intention to take research itself as the subject of study and a multitude of accompanying questions. Why do artists engage in research? How do artists conduct research within the creative process? What is the significance of research carried out by artists?
Together with the above questions, [Reference Point] seeks the aesthetic possibilities of research by:
[1] shifting research from the position of reference point to that of point of articulation through lectures by four participating artists from various fields who have continuously created research-based works;
[2] taking research materials out of footnotes and personal drives and attempting to share them within the exhibition space; and
[3] exploring, within the Reading Club, the artist’s book as an alternative medium that contains immaterial research and practice, and as a translated object.
